Homebrew-enabling devices such as Flash

Homebrew-enabling devices such as Flash Cartridges are now banned from Britain. In an anti-piracy law that was discussed today, the UK has decided to make a ruling against any flash cartridges being imported or sold in the UK, including, but not limited to, M3DS Simply and R4DS just to name a few. While flash carts were originally used to boot homebrew software like Web Browsers, Organization Software (see DSOrganize), IRC Clients, Email Checkers and all sorts of useful tools, their legality has been questioned as commerical game backups can easily be downloaded and booted on the console thanks to flash cartridge software loaders.

Nintendo was thrilled at the result of the new UK law, and gleefully issued the following statement, quote:

Nintendo promotes and fosters game development and creativity, and strongly supports the game developers who legitimately create new and innovative applications.
Nintendo initiates these actions not only on its own behalf, but also on behalf of over 1,400 video game-development companies that depend on legitimate sales of games for their survival.

In the U.K. alone, there have been over 100,000 game copying devices seized since 2009.
With the 3DS featuring supposedly uncrackable and paranoid security checks, this move by the UK law may hinder gamers that want to try games before they buy them on the Nintendo DS family of portable gaming consoles. It’s only a matter of time before the big N tries to make flash cartridges illegal in the US. With Nintendo winning a lawsuit against a flash cartridge retailer in Australia earlier this year, could it be the end of the humble flash cartridge?

This comic magazine is aimed towards otaku transvestites, and does not disapoint at all. Even if you’re not into that sort of thing, it is still a great read. The magazine features, many video game and anime characters in drag, and various other original works.

The real meat and bones of the magazines are the original doujin chapters featured.

Issue two will feature chapters 2 of Reversible, Sazanami Cherry, I-mistress young tinny?, Sometimes Otokonoko Onnanoko, Secret baby Devil. There is also a new series introduced called Pasutofyu Cha and they are publishing the one-shot special Only man’s daughter could use her arms.

Issue two will also featue:

[[Special Wallet's Hey girl! 』]
School life as a girl [daughter of our Guide Otoko, illustrations and short stories!

Illustration & Character Design: Sky Narusawa

Statement: city, try and cloth

[Onnanoko want to be! Travel Edition]

Second: China Dress

[Illustration]

Oh you Giripenta

Makoto Makita 記

Snow and rain

eco *

You can expect to see this on newstands everywhere starting today for 950 yen. I know I’ll definitely be picking up an issue to read chapter two of Reversible.

Gamasutra, a gaming body, has

Gamasutra, a gaming body, has released an article that details the Top 5 major sellers for games that are buy online, download online, following the media-less principle. The NPD group claims that US digital download purchases reached 21.3 million in 2009, which is roughly 48% of the total game sales for that year. However, retail game sales slumped 23% in 2009 due to the increase of digital download purchases.

Many game producers, such as Valve (with the Steam PC Gaming Platform) and Blizzard are raking in the cash, as gamers buy new maps and downloadable content for Team Fortress 2, Half-Life and other best-seller games. Facebook is also proving to be a money mine, as gamers can buy virtual cash in Facebook game applications like Mafia Wars and FarmVille to unlock new and exciting features.

The iPhone and iPod Touch platforms for gaming have also increased by 30% within Quarter 2 and Quarter 4 of 2009, with 97% of people who are happy with the free version of the game buying the full version from the Apple App Store. Sadly, there is no mention of Android-powered phones as a gaming platform, which may suggest that it’s a slightly biased review, unless Google’s new gaming platform may yield good results for Android devices, with Zynga agreeing to port versions of FarmVille and other Zynga-made games over to the Google Gaming platform.

As quoted from the article:

Top 5 Frontline Digital Retailers –2009 (based on unit % share)
1. Steampowered.com
2. Direct2drive.com
3. Blizzard.com
4. EA.com
5. Worldofwarcraft.com

It is quite evident that Steam is the most popular online game store, mainly thanks to it’s relaxed-look UI and one-click Buy and Download feature. In the gaming console sales world, Nintendo is spearheading the competition with it’s much-acclaimed Nintendo 3DS console, DSiWare and Wii Games while Microsoft and Sony trail behind for the first half of 2010.

Article Sources: Gamasutra & Sankaku Complex.

Welcome to the Coburn’s Domain

Welcome to the Coburn’s Domain 3 Main Website.

As you can see, it looks similar to a blog doesn’t it? Well, if you guessed it was, you’re right. We’re running on top of WordPress, an awesome framework for web publishing. Personally, I’d prefer to use my own code to produce websites, but time’s short. So, as a result, I quickly installed WordPress, a theme or two and some mods. And as a result, here we are!

If you think the design looks somewhat Sankaku Complex-ish, we actually didn’t copy them. It’s just how the owner of the theme being used made it, which means it’s not an attempt to copy that mentioned website’s theme.

We’re hiring website content writers – if you can do regular articles on games (new games coming out, reviewing them, etc), anime, or just software or news in general, we’d love to have you as part of our content management team. Pop a private message on the Message Forums to myself (CubeBurn) with a short little story (you can make it up, if you want) and if you pass the quality test, you’ll be part of the content management team. We’ll be aiming for regular updates, perferably at least 2 articles per day.

Other than that, enjoy Coburn’s Domain 3. :)
