It’s been a tough four years for PS3 Owners wanting to play game backups on their beloved PS3, and when an email from a Modchip Supplier floated across our News Inbox, we thought we’d share it around.
OzModChips, an Australian modchip supplier is currently selling a limited number of “PlayStation Plug-n-Play Jailbreak” devices which, as the name suggests, jailbreaks your PlayStation 3 for use with game backups, while also allowing gamers to dump (legit owned) games to external HDDs or USB Devices and playing them directly off there. Back in 2008, when Google launched Android, it made a wave in the mobile phone market. While the iPhone back then was a improved iPod Touch, Android paled in contrast when it came to the gaming section. Not anymore. According to an article over at Techeld, it is rumored that Sony might be adding Android into the mix, and as the mock picture suggests above, Sony might be able to produce a PSP Go-sized Android phone along with a Game Pad for playing Android and possibly even PSP games. Recent rumors suggest that the upcoming successor to the Nintendo DS, the Nintendo 3DS will have a price tag of $300 USD (US Dollars).
The price of the console itself in question, was seen on Amazon on a “pre-order” 3DS placeholder item with a price tag of 199.99 GBP (British Pounds), which roughly equates to about $400 AUD – $100 more than the price of the original phat Nintendo DS when it first launched. With the positive feedback the new console has been getting, Nintendo may be raking in the money when it hits the store shelves. Read more...
Yesterday, like all self respecting gamers who have completely avoided /v/ for the massive influx of Scott Pilgrim: Hipster Bullshit Spam: The Movie, I went down to my local cinema to catch a showing of the movie adaptation of the indie graphic novel series “Scott Pilgrim.” However I went to a midday showing, and much to my surprise, there was a sheer lack of gamers, hipsters too. The audience I witnessed lining up to see the movie was middle aged men and woman and their children. Anybody who has heard of Scott Pilgrim will know that the series is just another metaphor for society, except for the fact that it is completely jam packed to the brim with video game references. While the book did a great job making tons of tongue-in-cheek humor about video game elements being a part of the real world, the movie does a fantastic job of bringing these fantasies to life. From the extremely well choreographed fighting sequences, to the simple act having a “pee meter” on the corner of the screen slowly drain while Scott relieves himself in a bathroom. The movie did an excellent job of making the video game elements seamlessly intertwine with the real world to create a fantastic viewing experience. The whole time I was watching, I couldn’t help but plaster a smile all over my face seeing the glow of nostalgia in the middle aged parents eyes as they watched the movie, at one point I even heard a guy whisper to his son that when he was his age enemies in one of his favorite childhood games “River City Ransom” enemies dropped coins and exclaimed “BARF!” in a very similar way to how it is presented in Scott Pilgrim vs. The World. I could easily tell there were a lot of people who a fair amount of references passed right by, but the common place mainstream video game references such as gaining an extra life and leveling up has everybody cracking a smile and enjoying themselves. As with all book to movie adaptations, there will always have to be some content cut out, and considering the Scott Pilgrim series spans six books, the screenplay writers really had their work cut out for them, turning them all into one two hour film. They did a very good job with it though, they got most of the key elements in, kept in a lot of the great jokes, and made time for all of the action and musical sequences performed by the video game named bands in the series such as Scott’s own “Sex Bob-omb,” Envy Adams huge indie band “The Clash at Demonhead,” and the titular “Crash and The Boys,” composed of, well, Crash and The Boys. The movie has very fast pacing, so there is never a dull moment when you are watching the movie and it will grasp your attention like a starving hobo trying to shank you on that one street corner by your favorite coffee shop. That’s not the point though, all-in-all Scott Pilgrim vs. The World does a fantastic job at gartering the attention of anybody who wants to just see a whimsical romance tale full of humor and action, as well as the gaming aficionado who will go and have a great time just noticing the amazing attention to detail with all the little references. The movie does a great job at bringing the series to the masses in a way everybody can enjoy and have a fun time watching, I would highly recommend everybody go and take their families to go see it together. Nintendo has stated that a next-gen console is currently under development, which will be the successor to the Nintendo Wii. Sadly, the big N isn’t going to brag on about the specifications about the new console, and is keeping quiet. Nintendo boss, Satoru Iwada, stated the following quote:
Unfortunately, the history of entertainment is also the history of imitation. If a superb idea comes out, and it’s something you can’t protect with a patent, it will be copied immediately. Read more...
The long-awaited installment in the Sonic Wii game series has almost arrived, with Sega doing the honors of releasing a teaser trailer, along with a expected release date.
Rated E for Everyone, with ESRB’s rating of “Cartoon Violence”, the offical Sega trailer looks very promising indeed. Despite the epic failure of the 2006 Xbox 360 and PS3 bug-riddled Sonic the Hedgehog game, Sonic Colors may be the antidote to Sega’s bad Sonic game track record. The trailer can be seen below:

The other day Valve had so nonchalantly announced that it would be releasing a remake of the Unreal Tournament: 2004 mod “Alien Swarm” running on the Source engine for free via Steam. Alien Swarm will be a four player co-operative, top-down shooter created by the original team who has been busy in the meantime working on future Valve blockbuster titles such as the Left 4 Dead games and the upcoming Portal 2. It seems that the big N, Nintendo, has decided to take a massive swing at the Nintendo DS piracy and homebrew scene, and as a result, locked down the Nintendo 3DS firmware with security checks and other tricks to prevent unauthorized tampering.
The 3DS is to feature a upgraded version of the Nintendo Wii’s and Nintendo DSi/DSi XL security system, which Nintendo describes it as “uncrackable”. The 3DS apparently performs a lot of checks that make sure that the code being executed on the system is genuine, and not exploited (which some boot game backup on DS Phat solutions such as PassMe have taken advantage of in the past).
