Nintendo: “Wii Successor Overdue, no details – others will beat us to it!”

Nintendo has stated that a next-gen console is currently under development, which will be the successor to the Nintendo Wii. Sadly, the big N isn’t going to brag on about the specifications about the new console, and is keeping quiet. Nintendo boss, Satoru Iwada, stated the following quote:

Unfortunately, the history of entertainment is also the history of imitation. If a superb idea comes out, and it’s something you can’t protect with a patent, it will be copied immediately.

Rumors suggest that the next Nintendo console will ditch the Wiimote for a more convenient “classic” controller, in the style of the current Classic and GameCube controllers. Statoru later continued talking about “surprising” customers, which may also mean that this new console isn’t just a rehash of the Wii with a few cosmetic changes and upgraded hardware, allowing the console to move out of the “casual” gaming category that the Nintendo consoles currently sits in.

Despite Nintendo’s grudge against Sony’s PlayStation Move controller and Microsoft’s Kinect, it’ll be a matter of time before Nintendo reveals the console in all its glory.
